<div itemprop="description">Lucy Florence (Porter) Gardiner, of London, ON went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on November 18, 2013 in her 90th year. Lucy was born on June 23, 1924 in Porterville, Newfoundland, the daughter of Caleb and Sarah (Ball) Porter and the 11th of 14 children. Growing up on the Bay of Exploits in beautiful Porterville left an indelible mark upon Lucy, and it would remain her favourite place on earth all of her life. World War II brought Canadian soldiers to Newfoundland's shores, and her future husband as well. She married James Gardiner on January 31, 1944, and together they raised a family of 6 children, emigrating to Ontario in 1950. Those who knew her will remember a proud Newfoundlander, a woman of strong faith, a compassionate nurse, and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She remained young at heart and full of life and laughter all of her days. Lucy is predeceased by husband James, her parents, brothers: Asaph, Harrison and Harold; sisters: Mary, Gladys, Phyllis, Edna, Julie, Edith and Jesse; two sons: Barton and Greg Gardiner; and grandson Chad Gardiner. She is survived by her children: Eloise (Bruce) MacDonald of London, Sherry (Leonard) Butters of St Marys, Bradly (Marion) Gardiner of London, Vicki (Peter) Burgess of Forest, and Bethne (Aivars) Berzins of Prince Edward Island. She was a fun and loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Audrey Forgey of Westfield, New Brunswick, Minnie Haines of Lewisporte, Newfoundland and Max (Sheila) Porter of Porterville, Newfoundland. &ldquo;Aunt Lucy&rdquo; will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Newfoundland, and across Canada. She will also be missed by many others and all who knew her. A graveside service will be held at St Marys Cemetery 150 Cain Street, St. Marys on Wednesday, November, 20, 2013 at 2:15 pm with Pastor David Elliott of Knollwood Baptist Church officiating.
